Mar. 20. The final exam is scheduled for Tuesday, May 1, 8-10 am in LC F6.
Mar. 20. The second midterm will be Wednesday, April 4, 9-9:50, LC D4 (same room as last time). It will cover chapters 5-7. There will be review sessions by the TA's next week as follows:

Each session will be 50 minutes long. They will solve exercises from the textbook. If there are any particular problems you would like solved, please email the appropriate TA well before the session.
Mar 6. Class will be held in 1083 ERF on Friday, Mar. 9, at the usual time. To get to 1083 ERF, follow the central corridor in SEL all the way east, turn right past the loading dock and then follow the signs. Bring a floppy disk if you want to save any computer work we do there.
Jan 30. The first midterm will be held on Feb. 12 during usual class hours (9:00-9:50) in LC D4. Be on time!
Jan 30. There is an error in the homework problem on p. 82, #5. The probability distribution should have e raised to the power -2, not e raised to the power 2.

(Jan 12) There are (n-1)! circular permutations of n objects. There are n!/(n1! n2! ... nk!) ordinary permutations of n objects when n1 are of type 1, n2 are of type 2, ..., nk are of type k. How many circular permutations of n objects are there when n1 are of type 1, n2 are of type 2, ..., nk are of type k?

(Feb 7) Prove that Chebyshev's Theorem gives the best possible limit. One way to do this is to find a distribution that violates [Chebyshev's limit + an arbitrarily small epsilon].

(Feb 23) What can you say in general about the cumulative Poisson distribution function up to x, when the parameter is x? In other words, consider p(1;1), p(2;2), p(3;3), etcetera, and draw general conclusions.

(Mar 2) Say a course with 100 students is curved to a normal distribution, and 40% of students are meant to receive either an A or a B. What are the minimum and maximum number of students that fall in this category (i.e., receive either A or B)?
If you are given the additional information that the mean is 70 points and the standard deviation is 5 points, does that affect your answer?
